Dear Families
The Society for Children and Youth of BC (SCY) is excited to introduce you to our new program, Kid Commute — a Walking School Bus initiative (WSB). This initiative is made possible by funding from TransLink, provided as part of their regional Youth Travel Strategy. The program is being delivered by us at the SCY in partnership with the City of Vancouver and the Vancouver School District. We invite you to fill out this survey to bring to your school this fantastic opportunity to promote safety, health, and community spirit.
What is a Walking School Bus initiative?
Kid Commute is a program designed to create a safe and enjoyable way for children to travel to and from school. It involves a group of students walking together under the supervision of dedicated adult Walk Leaders, creating a “bus route” children can join and walk to/from school together. A WSB works similar to a traditional yellow school bus but on foot!

We need your help!
We invite you to complete this survey: Survey Here
We are currently in the process of identifying interested families and designing the walking route that the group will follow. By filling out the WSB survey, you can help us to:
- Uncover where interested families are living geographically
- Identify interested families (student participants and adult volunteers)
- Understand school transportation habits
- Recruit volunteers from the school community to become “Walk Leaders” — individuals who walk with the group of children to/from school
***The deadline to complete this survey is December 8th.
